Welcome!

Welcome to my little slice of the Internet. Mainly home to mad ramblings, geekiness and other general wibblings.

I'm working on a redesign of the site presently. Off and on I've been planning and working on it for ages now!

It is however getting there, especially now I'm getting comfortable with Drupal 6 and CCK/Views. So stay tuned, it will launch sometime soon.

Till then this site is really just a placeholder with a blog. When the redesign launches, there'll be the blog and more, watch this space!

Long Time no blog...

Been a while since I last put anything up here. I've been ill mostly, as well as busy sorting other things in my life out, kinda forgot about this site for a while.

I managed (with Kat's) help to fix the Aspire One, it now happily runs Ubuntu 9.10 NBR. It is even more useful now I have gotten a 9 cell battery for it, giving at least 5-6 hours use on a full charge with wifi. Without wifi I reckon I'd probably get close to 8-10 hours, which is impressive I feel. It wans't too expensive either (£37 on ebay).

Aspire One dead

Kat was using my Aspire One whilst her laptop is in for repair with Acer for a defective screen.

She'd been trying Ubuntu NBR 9.10a5 on it, which worked well enough. She then rebooted it to go into the Jaunty install on the HDD, and got presented with a black screen. No activity at all.

At first I thought it might be something like a duff video chip, but we later discovered that the fan and power light was the only thing coming on. Odd, frustrated I ignored it pretty much, mostly because I'm

Thoughts about Kubuntu Karmic NBR Alpha 5

I tend to stick with Ubuntu (GNOME) rather than KDE, but as the Kubuntu team have released an alpha of their netbook oriented version I decided to try it.

As for Kubuntu 9.10 Alpha 5 netbook, this being an Alpha release I expected it to be rather rough and buggy. I was pleasantly surprised to find it wasn't quite as rough or buggy as I thought.

The interface looks nice, but just doesn't seem to quite work as seemlessly or nicely as the GNOME based one does. It has some nice features though, the application selector being very much Apple Expose-alike.

Thoughts about Ubuntu Karmic NBR Alpha 5

I've been using Ubuntu 9.04 on my desktop for a while now and I'm quite happy with it for the moment. Apart from problems with 64bit Linux + Flash in Firefox all seems ok.

Anyway thats not the point of my post.

I also use Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix (or NBR) on my Aspire One A150.

Nearly there..

Nearly gotten the staging site working how I want.

Currently setting up all the image galleries, then going to fine tune the content types (still not 100% happy with the blog CCK type), and then figure out the theme and it should then be ready to go!

After that I'll work on more content (a return of some of the pages that used to be here perhaps).

The future cometh...

Corny title I know, but i couldn't really think of anything else, and 'Re-launch of site' didn't quite fit right with me for some reason.

Anyway, a bit of a progress update I guess.

The blog part I think is nearly there. The image galleries are almost there too, I've just now been testing Image FUpload to speed image uploads up. It seems to work almost how I want, which is great. I think I'll use it on the staging site I'm working on (which will replace this one when I'm done).

So, getting there!

*sigh* server continues to act up...

Home from camping with alt.fan.pratchett friends near Hay-on-Wye, to find my PC hadn't in fact turned off but had crashed when shutting down. Not really a big issue though that.

Made good use of the Aspire One with T-Mobile USB at the campsite, winning a pair of Wharfdale speakers for 50p. I think they're a bit better at least than the old Aiwa speakers I've been using. If not they'll do as a pair of computer room, along with either another amp or the current amp upstairs with a 'new' surround amp downstairs.

Another step forward...

Started the steps needed to get this site moved to a new install using Drupal 6.

Got the ground work done I think. Galleries work almost how they should. Need to finalise the blog and how I want it to look, but after that I think I'll probably migrate over to the Drupal 6 version from this.

Not liable to happen this week however. Maybe next week.

Funny People, Inglorious Basterds - A couple of brief reviews

Funny People

Kat won tickets to see Funny People (Adam Sandler's new film). I wasn't expecting much from it truth be told, but free? better than staying in doors I felt.

Anyway, met Kat at Five Ways station Monday evening, and then went to the Cineworld there.

First impressions when we took our seats were that Odeon seats are much better. Or at least were a bit more comfortable/wider.
