I sat down about 20mins ago to start the work to get the new site up and running. Only to find gigantico was down. Why I wondered?

Rebooted, hung at trying to boot the kernel, oops.

Rebooted again and selected memtest86+. Sure enough memory errors. Took memory out and put one stick in on its own, no errors.

Suffice to say, after cleaning the contacts (with brown paper), I managed to find that 3 out of the 4 Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 sticks I have are OK. But the board isn't happy to boot with more than 2 of them. So once again down to 2Gb ram, raher than 4GB. Irritating, but not majorly so. Need to get new RAM I think, probably NOT Crucial next time, maybe Corsair or Kingston?

Anyway, server back up and running. Not sure whats causing the problems with the memory though. Will just need to get new memory and see how it goes with that... of course need money for that!
