backups! yay!
I've till now had to rely on Paul to do Database backups for drupal+gallery2 installations on geekgothgrrl.co.uk as he had access to the cPanel, not me.
Now I don't need him to do so unless something goes badly wrong with the site, as I've just set up and installed the backup and backup/migrate modules.
The first lets me do a complete backup, including all files and db tables to a single file.
The second allows me to backup the database and also to import it. As well as manual db backups, it also allows me to set up a cron job for sheduled backups, as it is intelligent enough to skip the cache and watchdog table contents, it leads to pretty small backup files.
Whats more, I've downloaded a manual db backup done with backup/migrate, installed the backup/migrate module on my home dev site for 5.x versions of drupal and it all works perfectly! I can backup/migrate my entire site easily. Obviously I didn't install all the modules on the home dev site, so it didnt quite look right, but the db is there and so is all the content.
This will make my life a lot easier I think. It means I can work on a new site look and different content at home, and if I like it enough I can replace geekgothgrrl.co.uk with its db backup! easy 2 step migration!
Thats made me happy.
In other news, Paul told me that the replacement server for the DL380G2 is working, all it lacks is a raid card, which will make migration harder, but not impossible. Hopefully I'll get that up and running soon.
