Drupal 6 has been released!

Today I noticed Drupal 6 has been released.

I shall I think, work to port my site to it over time.

First to do is to get the 5.x install updated and sorted, etc.

I'll do that locally I think, and then upload it when I'm happy.

This will see the switch away from Gallery2 I think.

After that Drupal 6 will be set up as a seperate install and I'll slowly migrate to that locally.

New aquisitions and software changes.

I've recently gotten an Apple iPod Shuffle 2nd Generation. It's only a 1Gb player, but I can forgive that limitation for the simple fact that it is:

  • Tiny - VERY tiny!
  • Easy to use
  • Lightweight

Other things to come here soon include:

I think I might of found a Gallery2 replacement!

Right, I've been a bit unhappy with Gallery2 of late, a few things haven't been working right, and I just find it generally bloaty and clunky.

So, I've been looking for a replacement for it.

I think, with a combination of several Drupal modules I've found the answer. It is:

  • CCK
  • Imagecache
  • Views (pluse Views Bonus Pack)
  • Custom Pagers
  • Imagefield
  • ThickBox

Site re-working.

I am intending to work on a re-worked site with new/improved content and tidied up generally.

This will probably also include theme changes, maybe just tweaks initially to LiteJazz, but possibly also an entirely self created theme.

Depends how well my efforts go of course!

I can now of course develop the site, back up the current one and then do a migration with relative ease. This is very useful!

backups! yay!

I've till now had to rely on Paul to do Database backups for drupal+gallery2 installations on geekgothgrrl.co.uk as he had access to the cPanel, not me.

Now I don't need him to do so unless something goes badly wrong with the site, as I've just set up and installed the backup and backup/migrate modules.

The first lets me do a complete backup, including all files and db tables to a single file.

Been a while...

More site updates.

Will attempt to do more site updates today. There is a lot of tidying up work needing doing, I may get around to it.

I've managed to sleep last night too and feel awake and semi-productive.

I have getmail/procmail/exim/dovecot-imap set up and working fine at home now too, so email is centralised which is great for me having multiple machines.

Site Changes

I've today replaced/redesigned the site logo. Think it looks a lot better now. Might alter the colours slightly, but otherwise it looks fine I'm thinking.

I'm happy with how the current theme looks for now too. It seems to work ok.

I've also re-arranged the menu structure quite extensively.

Removed a number of items from the Primary Links (those links you see at the top of the page under the logo). It does now mean I don't need to worry about any Secondary Links too, so that simplifies things theme wise.

bloody IE...

Seems that the theme i had a few moments ago 'Aurora' doesn't work well at all in Internet Explorer.

So as a temp. measure i've put a simpler theme in place.

With a combination of the Menu Trim module and a bit of fiddling I've got it working, even without the secondary links showing up.

Menu Trim means that the menus automatically shrink as needed, etc. Making them tidier and smaller. Means I don't get the menu on the left repeating the top navigation links, that'd look sucky wouldn't it!

Ecto + Drupal 5.1 works! yay!

Got ecto and drupal 5.1 to talk with each other (hopefully this'll post!).

So, hopefully now I can update this blog via Ecto and have a lot easier time of it as a result!

Photos are in the gallery of the S74. I will probably create a proper page for it later and update the other pages.
